Cross-stitch stash & skein planner

Keep your thread stash by brand and colour number, enter a pattern's colours and stitch counts, and see how many skeins you probably need, how big to cut your fabric, and what's actually missing. Everything stays in your browser.

Independent tool, no colour charts. Skein Tally isn't affiliated with any thread maker. It doesn't ship brand colour charts or swatches: you type the brand and number from your skein label or pattern key. Skein counts are estimates from stated assumptions, so buy a spare for your main colours.

1 · Assumptions

Defaults: a common 6-strand cotton skein is 8 m (8.7 yd). Published guides put a skein at about 960–1,900 full crosses on 14-count with 2 strands, depending on how you stitch. The 1,500 default and the 10 % allowance are assumptions. If you know your own rate, enter it. Other counts and strand numbers scale from it (how).

4 · Pattern colours

Copy each colour from the pattern key: brand, number and its stitch counts (most keys list them). If the pattern lists skeins instead, enter those and Skein Tally will use them.

5 · Shopping list

Adds up what all your active projects (planned, kitting, in progress, with "include" ticked) need. It subtracts your stash and rounds up to whole skeins per colour.
